Minnesota Lawmakers Support Impeding 2A Rights for Victims of Domestic Violence

Should victims of domestic abuse be forced to wait 30 days and undergo firearm training to exercise their Second Amendment right to self-defense at this most critical time?

Yes, according to a cabal of Minnesota lawmakers who want to pile more impediments on top of the state’s existing gun control regime. Anti-gunners held out hope for a special session to capitalize on recent incidents and establish yet more gun control.

In the fiery legislative skirmish that resulted, State Sen. Keri Heintzeman (R) asked if a woman should be required to wait a whole month before possessing a firearm with which to defend herself or her loved ones.

Lawmakers claim victims should wait 30 days before taking possession of a purchased firearm

The response was telling.

State Sen. Liz Bolden (DFL) claimed to be open to conversations before adding: “…the bottom line being a woman in a domestic violence situation who wants to own a gun—anyone who owns a deadly weapon should have training on how to safely use that deadly weapon…”

No concern for the potential victim or constitutional rights is evident. Instead, the woman fearing for her life must cool her heels for 30 days and hope the aggressor changes their mind.

One senator believes women are incapable of basic self-defense

After a follow-up question by Heintzeman, anti-gunners sank to a depraved new low.

Sen. Ron Latz (DFL) interjected by insulting all women and dismissing self-defense altogether.

Latz ludicrously piped in, “Just for the record, I think the evidence shows…a firearm owned by a woman for self-defense, the evidence is it is more likely to end up being used against her by the attacker rather than used to successfully defend herself. That’s the data, so maybe that points to the even greater need for training on how to use the firearm and to prevent it from being taken by an attacker and used against her.”

Of course, proof of this silly assertion was not available.

The good news is that hopes for a special session of Minnesota lawmakers to further attack the right to keep and bear arms appear doomed.

There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.

Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
