Violent criminals choose “soft targets” for a reason. With an unarmed populace, there is far less of a chance that a good guy with a gun will step up and defend the innocent.
The recent deadly shooting at Brown University convinced New Hampshire State Representative Sam Farrington (R) and many of his colleagues that college campuses need an additional layer of protection from evildoers.
NH bill would protect campus carry rights for young adults
His proposal, House Bill 1793, would prohibit public colleges from enacting sweeping firearm bans under the guise of public safety. Farrington declared that these “gun-free zones” only establish areas where criminals feel secure from coming face-to-face with an armed citizen.
“In New Hampshire, we cherish the 2nd Amendment pretty well, and there is no reason why a university like UNH or Plymouth State, that is funded by tax dollars, should infringe upon 2nd Amendment rights of college students,” the lawmaker said.
Indeed, campus carry is a logical step to enhance the safety of young Americans.

Farrington and several gun rights supporters also noted the Bondi Beach massacre. Many believe this senseless slaughter might have been stopped sooner had the government not disarmed law-abiding citizens.
The fallacy, of course, is that gun control supports public safety. That is a simplistic argument that does not hold up under scrutiny.
Instead, tens of millions of Americans choose to be their own first line of defense. College students are adults who deserve nothing less than the ability to protect life and property from those who would harm them.
There is no reason why an upstanding young adult should not be afforded the fundamental right to armed self-defense. It is time to permanently change the “soft target” environment of college campuses.
