California is a prime example of what awaits gun owners if a state is dominated politically by anti-gunners. The Golden State is perpetually on the warpath to eradicate the right to keep and bear arms, and its latest silliness rolls out on January 1.
Attorney General Rob Bonta took care to frame this latest gun control push as “consumer protection.” Not gun control, as if that has ever stopped California from infringing on Second Amendment rights.
This time, it’s another mad scramble to eradicate so-called “ghost guns.”
Anti-gunners want to crush the hobby weapons industry
Artisans created these hobby weapons for centuries, and modern printing technology dramatically expanded the craft’s capacity to survive.
According to Bonta’s office, these weapons are a public safety threat concocted by the firearms industry. Now he will enforce a new wave of draconian statutes aimed at law-abiding citizens.
The issue is no longer solely about unfinished frames and receivers. Instead, the definitions of “firearm accessory” and “firearm manufacturing machine” are significantly expanded.
Violators of the new laws face up to 10 years in prison
Beginning in 2026, consumer notices must be distributed in California informing the public about how these items may be legally used in the state. There are age-verification and identity requirements for sellers of these products, both in-state and out-of-state.
Then there’s the new pile of criminal offenses faced by anyone aiding another person in creating an illegal weapon, distributing digital plans for making these “ghost guns,” or the general offense of causing another person to violate California law.
The language of Assembly Bill 1263 and Senate Bill 704 is intentionally vague, thereby increasing the threat to law-abiding citizens.
All under the guise of “transparency” and “accountability.” In California, it’s just another act of gun rights suppression.
