School safety is on the front burner as deranged shooters increasingly attack “soft targets.” Responses to the dangers vary wildly, but one New Jersey school district believes it has implemented a system that will significantly enhance student safety.
The Glassboro Public School District serves nearly 2,000 students through approximately 350 staff members. While many systems now deploy armed personnel, including trained staff, the district went down a different path.
The objective is to detect weapons before an attack can be carried out
Glassboro schools are now equipped with equipment and software developed by ZeroEyes and Singlewire. They are believed to be the first in the nation to deploy such technology.
The system is coupled with existing cameras in the six buildings. AI detection is used to identify firearms, and the images are immediately sent to a central company location, where trained personnel examine the visual evidence.
From there, the information is sent to school staff and law enforcement for a quicker response.
Unfortunately, school officials continue to ignore the most promising safety enhancement
Glassboro Assistant Superintendent Craig Stephenson told reporters that a demonstration of the process sold officials on its value.
“Our district was immediately impressed upon seeing a demonstration of ZeroEyes’ capabilities and recognized that integrating it with our Singlewire software would significantly enhance our security system,” Stephenson explained. “The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and this integration adds a critical new layer of protection.”
While Second Amendment supporters are always in favor of better protection and faster response times, it is essential to note that the Glassboro district did not implement the change that would cut the waiting period in an emergency to nearly zero.
And that is armed security already present on campus. No need to measure response times in minutes; a trained professional at the location would be priceless.
