Gun sales are a convenient barometer of just how healthy the Second Amendment remains in modern America. This success comes despite influential anti-gun lawmakers and mainstream media that consistently parrots their messaging.
The National Shooting Sport Foundation (NSSF) reported that November’s adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figures were a mixed bag.
While the 1,408,230 tally was up from October’s final, it represented a 7% drop from last November’s 1,514,773. The unadjusted figure came in 20.1% down from the same month in 2024.
Firearm sales remain strong though off their recent peak levels
But what does this mean?
NSSF Managing Director of Public Affairs Mark Oliva celebrated topping the 1 million-plus mark yet again as another sign the industry remains strong.
“November’s adjusted NICS background check figures are following the trends we’ve seen all year long,” Oliva declared. “While background checks for firearm sales at retail are below last year’s figures, November’s figures show a strong and enduring interest in lawful firearm ownership.”
November marked another month of solid sales figures
The top five states cited by the NSSF for adjusted checks were Texas, Florida, California, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
November’s topping of the one million mark was the fourth month in a row that firearm sales broke through this threshold. In fact, only July’s aberration of less than that total broke a streak that by now would surpass six years.
As for the all-important Thanksgiving Week and Black Friday results, NICS checks totaled 530,156. This impressive figure is off 13.6% from the 2024 holiday period, reflecting the general softening of the weapons market.
It must be noted that U.S. gun sales just five years ago soared during the pandemic lockdowns and accompanying social unrest. Millions of Americans joined the ranks of gun owners, while simultaneously, the threat of more stringent federal gun control has diminished significantly—for now.
