Reasonable people would agree that using government (taxpayer) funds to prop up organizations opposed to constitutional rights is sheer folly. Unfortunately, Second Amendment supporters had to deal with this travesty for years under the previous administration.
That notably changed when the Department of Justice (DOJ) recently overhauled its controversial grants for so-called “gun violence prevention programs.”
These came mainly through the utterly discredited and now-shuttered White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
Incredibly, taxpayer funds were used to tear down fundamental rights that lawmakers are sworn to uphold
The National Rifle Association (NRA) detailed the significant progress made on gun rights this week.
Tens of millions for these dubious projects are now reimagined to eradicate funding for projects “that do not align with the administration’s priorities.”
The DOJ declared that it will instead focus on “law enforcement operations, combating violent crime, protecting American children, supporting American victims of trafficking and sexual assault, and promoting coordination of law enforcement efforts at all levels of government.”
Previous efforts to suppress gun rights are falling by the wayside
As it should be.
The retooled grant program offers $34 million in funding, but it will no longer be doled out to community organizations and nonprofits.
These invariably cater to anti-gun radicals, especially groups approved under the anti-Second Amendment Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) championed by the White House’s previous occupant.
No longer will resources be funneled to extremist groups bent on destroying the right to keep and bear arms. Now, taxpayer dollars will be utilized to promote violence prevention programs, specifically those targeting youth.
Imagine taxpayer funds being distributed to entities intent on tearing down free speech or the right to worship as one chooses. The outcry from civil libertarians would be deafening, and it should be for protecting the Second Amendment as well.
