Massachusetts gun owners have long dealt with the oppressive regime of prohibitions and regulations handed down by their state lawmakers.
Now, thanks to a powerful legal push by the National Rifle Association (NRA) and its pro-Second Amendment partners, these law-abiding citizens may get some relief.
The NRA is leading the charge to erase the Massachusetts ban on so-called “assault-style” weapons. The state enforces a blanket prohibition on these immensely popular sporting rifles under the misguided belief that somehow this act will enhance public safety.
Law bans a list of semi-automatic firearms that no one has seen
The justice system abhors vague and malleable laws that may be twisted and bent into any shape and applied to virtually unlimited situations.
Unfortunately, that is the dilemma faced by Massachusetts residents under current statutes. The state banned these “assault-style” firearms and their many “copies” and promised to publish a specific list of such weapons that are illegal within its borders.
Only, no one has seen this list.
Massachusetts is one of the leading forces against gun rights
NRA-ILA Executive Director John Commerford declared that Hanlon v. Campbell is a fight for fundamental freedoms.
“Radical gun grabbers in Massachusetts have run roughshod on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens,” Commerford noted. “These extreme and ill-conceived laws have created chaos in the Commonwealth, turning lawful gun owners into felons overnight. Today’s lawsuit filed by the NRA seeks to end arbitrary bans on commonly owned firearms and begin the process of restoring the constitutional rights of Bay Staters.”
The NRA suit is the fourth against the new law, which was passed last summer.
Governor Maura Healey (D) has not explicitly commented on the NRA litigation, but she expressed her belief earlier that the state’s gun control regime can withstand legal challenges.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
