The best laid plans of violent criminals can quickly slide off the rails, especially when the intention is to target an armed and law-abiding citizen for attack.
That appears to be the case in a Monday morning incident at a Memphis convenience store. Police were called to the Quick Check Store on reports of an attempted robbery and gunfire.
Suspect allegedly reached for a firearm, but the employee was faster
When officers arrived at around 10 a.m., they found a chaotic scene to unravel. According to reports, the encounter exploded when an unidentified male suspect wearing a white hoodie entered the business.
The alert store clerk saw the man start to pull a gun from his waistband and acted quickly to defend himself. Before the suspect could cause harm, the employee fired at least one shot.
The now-wounded suspect immediately thought better of the day’s itinerary and fled from the store. Memphis Police investigators converged on the scene, gathered security footage and eyewitness testimony, and emerged with solid leads.
Police have a detailed description of the wounded suspect
The injured party should not be difficult to locate.
First, he is believed to have a gunshot wound. Then there’s the description of being “between 18-22 years old and about 5-foot-5 with a tattoo over one of his eyebrows.”
That should simplify the manhunt.
Despite Memphis being one of several major U.S. cities that saw a precipitous drop in violent crime in 2025, the issue remains largely unresolved. The convenience store clerk should be commended for his situational awareness—not to mention being so quick on the draw.
Thanks to the Second Amendment, a hard-working employee stopped an apparent attempted robbery and lived to see another day. For him and his family, that is a priceless reward.
