Anyone who does not believe there is a mental health crisis in this country is likely not paying attention. Another glaring example emerged in Los Angeles early Friday morning, revealing both a hero and a tragic victim.
An armed 79-year-old Vietnam veteran stepped up and protected two women in a Studio City apartment. The shocking events leading up to the fatal encounter were caught on security video.
Veteran landlord brushes off his own injuries to rescue another
An unidentified and unclothed man is seen walking around the neighborhood and yelling incoherently while approaching at least one home. His erratic behavior escalated when he entered an apartment occupied by two women.
The 79-year-old landlord heard the ensuing commotion and came to confront the suspect. That’s when the naked man allegedly picked up the rescuer and body-slammed him—breaking both of his legs.
Ordinarily, that would have been the end of that. But not on Friday.
The violent confrontation could have ended much differently without the presence of a firearm
The veteran was armed, and even with two broken legs, he managed to strike the suspect with three shots.
A witness described the deadly encounter to ABC7. “Then I looked over and it was a naked guy. At first, I thought it was just like, maybe it’s a house fire. Like, why is he out here naked?”
The scene went from bad to worse, according to the witness. “There was an older guy in the home. The naked guy was walking through their gate and shots were fired. I heard one shot. Then I looked over and the naked guy was on the ground. The older guy was on the ground and shot him two more times.”
A resident described the hero landlord as “sweet” and declared he “would never hurt anyone unless he had to.”
And though the man who died was apparently suffering a mental health crisis, it does not diminish the threat he allegedly posed and the heroism of the veteran who came to the rescue of the female residents.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
