Having a legal and ready firearm at your disposal may be the difference between life and death. It may also be the difference between seeing a loved one suffer at the hands of an abuser and rescuing them from injury or worse.
A shocking confrontation between a Philadelphia couple resulted in the woman allegedly being battered in her home. The boyfriend, later identified as 30-year-old Jaimeer Jones-Walker of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, was visiting her home when an argument broke out.
It quickly became physical in the presence of the woman’s 11-year-old son.
Son reportedly retrieved a firearm and acted to defend his mother
The girlfriend told investigators that she was attacked by the man inside a back bedroom before her son intervened. The boy allegedly grabbed a handgun and fired a single shot at Jones-Walker, striking him in the face.
When police arrived, they found Jones-Walker suffering a grave wound, and medical personnel soon pronounced him dead at the scene.
Authorities interviewed several neighbors to piece together what led to the fatal shooting. One told investigators that she heard a loud racket and then what sounded like a single gunshot.

Another revealed that they heard the couple arguing before last week’s deadly incident.
Officials told reporters that the mother and her young son are cooperating with their investigation, and no charges have been announced.
Despite the well-chronicled anti-gun stances of prominent area officials, both mother and son should be free to pick up the pieces and carry on with their lives.
That would likely not be possible without a readily available firearm and the courage to use it to defend a loved one. The loss of life is regrettable, but if the facts of the case hold, the son was left with little choice but to defend the woman who gave him life.
