Professor Yanked from Classroom After Incendiary Anti-2A Diatribe is making headlines as one Maine educator faces backlash for berating a student over their support of the Second Amendment. Far too many professors today see their classrooms not as spaces for open discussion, but as platforms for personal agendas. That dangerous dynamic came to a head at Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC), where one instructor’s aggressive anti-gun rhetoric has now landed her in hot water.

Student Penalized for Defending Second Amendment

The controversy began when student Kate Parker submitted an assignment expressing opposition to Maine’s “red flag” laws and voicing support for the right to bear arms. Instead of receiving constructive criticism or open dialogue, Parker was met with an onslaught of bias and personal attacks from her professor, Carol Lewandowski.

Lewandowski’s feedback included statements like, “I find this Second Amendment nonsense exhausting,” and “Hate to tell ya, but guns DO kill.” She even told Parker to “choose a different topic” because she couldn’t grade it fairly due to her “disdain for the misinterpretations of the Second Amendment.” The professor went so far as to claim Parker cared more about guns than people.

Such harsh and unprofessional feedback quickly caught the attention of the public—and the political world.

Lawmakers and NRA React Swiftly

Outrage erupted almost immediately. More than 50 Maine lawmakers signed a letter addressed to EMCC leadership and the Maine Community College System, calling for Lewandowski to be removed. They cited her conduct as unethical and a clear violation of academic standards.

“Attempts to intimidate and silence students, especially based on religious status, ideology, and political affiliation, are completely unacceptable and run counter to the goals of higher education,” the letter stated. “There is no excuse for these comments, and we urge the system to fire this professor with immediate force and effect.”

The National Rifle Association (NRA) also responded. NRA-ILA Executive Director John Commerford condemned the incident, pointing to the dangers of shutting down constitutional debate in an academic setting. “Despite the professor’s obvious bias and unfounded remarks regarding gun ownership,” he said, “Kate’s First Amendment rights to share her opinions on the Second Amendment and her faith should remain intact, without fear of retribution or ridicule.”

EMCC Removes Professor from Classroom

Eastern Maine Community College responded quickly to the backlash. While they have not officially announced Lewandowski’s termination, the school confirmed she has been removed from the classroom. Another professor has taken over her courses for the remainder of the summer term.

“EMCC leadership responded immediately upon learning about the situation,” a statement from the college read. “We are currently engaged in taking appropriate steps as required by law and collective bargaining agreement.”

This incident highlights a broader issue within academia: the weaponization of education to push political views. Academic freedom must be protected, but it must also be applied fairly. Students should not be punished for expressing viewpoints grounded in law, logic, and constitutional rights.

There is a difference between academic debate and ideological domination—and in this case, Lewandowski crossed that line.
