Proposal Would Prohibit SBA Discrimination Against the Weapons Industry

Firearms-related businesses enjoy constitutional protection for the simple fact that they make the right to keep and bear arms possible. Without their wares, the Second Amendment would wither and blow away.

Thus, it is disturbing to see a pattern of discrimination perpetrated by both the federal government and Wall Street financial giants against these fundamental institutions.

Now, there’s a proposal to prevent one key government agency from unlawfully discriminating against the industry.

SBA loans are often critical for small businesses to get off the ground

Last Wednesday, Rep. Roger Williams (R-TX) introduced the Equal Shot Act of 2025 with the intention to protect mom and pop businesses from indefensible bias against them.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) provides assistance of all sorts for startup companies and those trying to find their financial footing.

Williams’ proposal states that “the administrator of the Small Business Administration may not adopt any policy, practice, guidance, or directive that discriminates against an otherwise eligible applicant for financial assistance under the Small Business Act or the Small Business Investment Act of 1958, including an applicant for a loan or loan guarantee, solely because such applicant is a (1) firearm entity; (2) firearm entity affiliate; or (3) firearm trade association.”

Firearm-related businesses deserve equal protection when applying for financial assistance

Williams declared in a press release accompanying the announcement that it is wrong for unelected officials to have the power to discriminate for political or ideological biases. These shops are “owned and operated by hardworking Americans who follow the law.”

The danger in discrimination by the SBA or similar agencies is that, oftentimes, the loans they provide are the lifeblood for businesses struggling to get off the ground.

And while the previous administration was vehemently anti-Second Amendment, the current trend is toward reestablishing respect for gun rights. Securing a level playing field for these businesses is another step in the direction of gun rights.

There’s no better way to support the 2A than with merch that speaks before you do.
