California governor and likely presidential hopeful Gavin Newsom (D) made quite the spectacle of being gifted a pistol by a Tennessee podcaster recently.
The Sig P365 XMACRO semi-automatic handgun was hailed as proof that Newsom really is not the anti-Second Amendment extremist that his entire political track record screams that he is.
However, something funny happened on the precious gift’s trek to the Golden State—the gun did not make it.
Newsom tried and failed to hide his obvious anti-gun beliefs
First, Tennessee-based interviewer Shawn Ryan generously gave the boxed treasure to Newsom. The governor then proclaimed that he is “not anti-gun at all” and is “deeply mindful” of the Second Amendment.
Right. Under Newsom’s controversial tutelage, California has the most oppressive gun control regime in the nation. Not New York, Illinois, or New Jersey. California.
Come to find out, the byzantine web of gun control restrictions and prohibitions proved to be too much for Newsom’s new firearm to relocate to the West Coast.
Newsom had to sheepishly return the handgun because of his own handiwork
California Assemblyman Carl DeMaio (R) revealed in a release last week that the governor’s own impediments blocked him from taking possession.
His office wrote that “Newsom rejected the gift because of compliance rules and left the firearm behind in Tennessee. Newsom’s team has since admitted that the California anti-gun laws are so complicated that they have had to hire legal counsel to conduct a legal review.
Of course, it’s not like the governor would have kept the loaded handgun on his nightstand to ward off the bad guys. The mansion he lives in undoubtedly has armed guards and a world-class security system to make sure Newsom sleeps well at night.
But, for the rest of us, that scenario is generally not an option. That’s where the Second Amendment comes in.
