People and machines are not so different—you typically get out what you put in. With that in mind, the outcome of a highly touted Michigan task force’s work was never in doubt.
Anti-Second Amendment Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) convened a rubber-stamp committee on the issue of gun violence. Its conclusions surprised precisely no one.
To solve Michigan’s crime problem, of which Detroit is a major contributor, so-called “assault weapons” and “large capacity” magazines must be removed from the public’s hands.

Task force Chairwoman Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, the state’s chief medical executive, declared that gun violence is a public health issue in Michigan.
“There are a lot of issues here that have not historically been thought of as public health issues, and only when we’ve taken this really comprehensive public health approach have we been able to implement real change,” Bagdasarian claimed. “Gun violence is one of those issues.”
Task force conveniently ignored the perpetrators of violent crime
Meanwhile, nary a word about the actual perpetrators of violent crime and those who return them to the streets faster than they were yanked from them.
Instead, somehow “gun violence” is a public health issue. This is a tactic deployed by anti-gunners to attempt to work around Second Amendment protections.
Supporters are convinced that by eradicating the right to keep and bear arms, a modern utopia will magically appear.
Of course, any society that strips away the fundamental right to self-defense is hardly a utopia. Instead, it is ripe for the taking by a tyrannical government as well as violent criminals.
Besides the predictable attack on popular sporting rifles, the task force recommended raising the legal age to purchase a weapon, establishing waiting periods, and opening up the gun industry to frivolous lawsuits.
Again, predictable.
