The ranks of armed Americans continue to swell, and heroic incidents of self-defense are increasingly common. The latest emerged from Compton, California, where an armed woman stood up for herself and her fellow shoppers against an alleged pervert.
California woman used her firearm to stop a violent threat
It was Sunday afternoon, just before 3:30 p.m., when the suspect reportedly followed a woman into the Alondra Boulevard business and began acting aggressively.
Witnesses told investigators that he groped the woman he followed, prompting employees to demand that he leave.
Instead, he allegedly threatened to kill those present and made them believe he had a knife. The Los Angeles Police Department released a statement confirming that “the male became increasingly verbally assaultive toward employees and customers. He started throwing and damaging merchandise in the store.”
Good Samaritan was polite enough to fire a warning shot, but that did not do the trick
That was enough for a woman who saw the spectacle, and fearing for her well-being and that of the other shoppers and employees, she produced a handgun and fired a warning shot.
The LAPD release noted that the Good Samaritan saw the man turn toward her after the first shot. She struck him with the second.
First responders quickly converged on the scene, and Compton Fire Department officials pronounced the suspect dead there.
Investigators continue to investigate the fatal shooting and ask that any witnesses come forward with information. They are canvassing the area for anyone who was outside the store and may have helpful information.
No arrests were reported, and unless the suspect had accomplices, none are likely.
