It’s bad enough that Minnesota’s Second Amendment community is forced to live under Gov. Tim Walz’s (D) anti-gun administration. Now, St. Paul officials are trying to arbitrarily ban many popular sporting rifles within their borders.
Word came in recent days that lawmakers convened on October 22 to discuss plans to ban these firearms and standard-capacity magazines within the city limits.
This sets up yet another legal showdown between 2A organizations and a government cabal intent on trampling on gun rights.
St. Paul officials proposed a solution in search of a problem
St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter (DFL) tried to put a positive spin on the city’s potential infringement on the right to keep and bear arms.
“We have to do something,” Carter claimed. “What we’re saying isn’t that you can’t make, sell, or own an assault rifle. What we’re saying is don’t carry it down Grand Avenue.”
It is unclear whether this behavior is an issue in St. Paul, but the solution is hardly to strip people of their constitutional rights.
Minnesota’s preemption law stands in the way of the St. Paul proposal
Furthermore, “assault rifle” is the smear applied by anti-gunners to semi-automatic long guns that are popular with the shooting community. Gun rights opponents routinely target these firearms more for their appearance than functionality.
Even if the proposal is signed, sealed, and delivered by city officials, a glaring issue remains.
Such a statute will violate Minnesota’s preemption law that establishes the state as the preeminent arbiter of gun control. There is no ambiguity in its wording, as Rob Doar of the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus explained.
“They can’t do that,” Doar declared. “It’s a violation of state law for any local government to enact firearm ordinances outside of very narrow escapes.”
The Second Amendment advocate added that the law is doomed “because it can’t be enforced.” In other words, another meaningless gesture by gun rights opponents.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
