A coalition of influential Second Amendment organizations filed a motion last week for summary judgment in Escher v. Noble. This contentious case challenges the Massachusetts prohibition on young adults purchasing most weapons.
The Bay State currently mandates that a firearm purchaser have either a firearm identification card or a carry license. Young adults 18-20 years old only have access to the identification card, which allows the individual only to purchase long guns that are not large capacity or semi-automatic.
The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), the National Rifle Association (NRA), the Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC), Gun Owners of America (GOA), and their partners filed the suit.
Massachusetts openly discriminates against young adults
SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut blasted lawmakers for singling out constitutionally-protected freedoms for persecution.
“In no other context would the American people tolerate limiting the civil rights of adults based solely on their age,” Kraut declared. “Denying adults under 21 years old the ability to possess a handgun—the quintessential firearm of choice for self-defense—is a clear violation of their Second Amendment rights. The ratification of the Bill of Rights takes precisely this sort of policy decision off the table, and Massachusetts lawmakers have no authority to strip away the rights of a discreet subset of the population.”
No other constitutional freedom is subject to such arbitrary restrictions
Activists across the nation fight discriminatory laws that deny full freedom to young adults. This age group may defend the country in armed battle, marry, serve on juries, and be charged as adults.
Yet, according to lawmakers in Massachusetts and elsewhere, they are not fully vested as adult U.S. citizens. It is long past due for this injustice to be addressed and reversed, and Second Amendment supporters want this to be the case that re-establishes this fundamental right.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
