When they tell you who they really are, believe them.
Ammoland News recently spotlighted the work of Marianna Mitchem, a former official with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). She left her federal duties, which presumably were to protect Second Amendment rights, and went to work for Everytown.
For perspective, Mitchem spent two decades tearing down gun rights under her ATF authority. Her professional move earlier this year allowed her to continue her crusade with the anti-Second Amendment organization.
Despite claims otherwise, Everytown is bent on destroying the Second Amendment
Now, the anti-gun rights group published a report by Mitchem and her colleagues titled, “The Supply Side of Violence: How Gun Dealers Fuel Firearm Trafficking.”
From the title alone, it is evident that this tome is not a balanced narrative on the weapons industry and how it is integral to American society.
And it isn’t.
Former ATF official authored a blueprint for tearing down gun rights
Instead, the authors pulled out every stop to paint the current pro-gun stance of the federal government as an existential threat. They went after the front line of defense against gun running—upstanding weapons dealers.
Incredibly, Mitchem and her cronies believe the only way to curb violent crime is to remove the best tool for personal self-defense.
In their words, bringing Washington’s full weight down on gun dealers will “protect our communities from gun trafficking.”
Right. The mom-and-pop gun shops, which are the backbone of the industry, are the best weapon against illegal trafficking. Working with them instead of creating an adversarial relationship is a much better strategy.
The Everytown missive, co-authored by someone who was once tasked with protecting Second Amendment rights, is a direct assault on law-abiding citizens.
The writers believe that Washington is sleeping on the job and suggest that it’s up to states to take up the slack. Their wishlist of oppressive laws and regulations is as expansive as it is predictable.
Gun dealers would be required to obtain a state permit in addition to the federal license already needed. This is yet another layer of obstruction of gun rights, and the authors know this.
They are also well aware that states such as California, New York, and Illinois would make it virtually impossible for gun dealers to remain in business.
All 2A-related businesses would be forced to enhance site security by locking weapons and installing advanced, cost-prohibitive security systems.
Dealers and employees would have to undergo annual training on identifying straw purchasers. This is already a primary function of these businesses, and implementing such a policy would only create extra burdens and expenses.
State or local law enforcement would conduct regular checks on gun shops, with a special focus on newer establishments and those that had weapons traced back to them that were used in crimes.
Never mind that firearm dealers are not responsible for third-party actions any more than the auto industry is for drunk driving fatalities.
Another prominent demand of Everytown’s anti-gunners is for state officials to receive records of all gun transactions to retain. Authorities would log sales and inventory, a giant step toward universal registration.
Gun dealers would be subject to intense discipline and mandatory suspensions for a variety of infractions. Under the expansive recommendations, retailers would have to provide gun purchasers with information about risks, suicides, and safe storage.
These businesspeople would also be open to civil liability if third-party individuals misuse their products. This is an overarching goal of anti-gunners despite established federal law protecting the industry from such frivolous lawfare.
Officials would also be mandated to produce an annual report on applications, inspections, and disciplinary measures taken. This would include crime data solely to blame dealers for the actions of others.
This is not protection, but rather the destruction of individual freedoms.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
