Connecticut lawmakers late last week pushed through a hot-button bill to ban Glock-style handguns. The partisan vote in the State Senate sent H5032 to Gov. Ned Lamont’s (D) desk, where it is expected to be signed.
Lamont deemed the latest Second Amendment infringement a priority on his wish list.
This development came as the Connecticut Citizens Defense League sounded the alarm about restrictions on self-defense options. The organization opposes efforts by anti-gunners to ban all semi-automatic handguns featuring a cruciform trigger that criminals unlawfully convert to enable automatic function.
Violence is a problem, but lawmakers constantly choose the wrong targets
Group President Holly Sullivan told Fox News Digital that gun rights opponents squarely aimed the controversial ban at law-abiding citizens and ignored the perpetrators of violent crime.
“They’re not going after the criminals that are breaking the law. They’re simply going after the law-abiding Americans who own commonly owned handguns,” Sullivan asserted. “And instead of banning or handling the criminal aspect of this, they’re simply taking away one of the most popular handguns in our country.”
Gun rights opponents blame technology, not criminals
Exactly. Sullivan believes that, once successful with Glock-style pistols, anti-gunners will simply proceed to the next brand or style of weapon they want banned and confiscated.
The advocate added that these dishonest politicians “don’t want their constituents to have firearms and they don’t know how to deal with the criminals that are misusing them.”
On the other side, Connecticut Against Gun Violence’s Earl Bloodworth told local media that legislators are merely targeting “ghost guns” and machine guns. “For too long, we have watched technology outpace our laws while families pay the price in grief and trauma that never truly heals.”
It’s technology’s fault. Got it. It takes courage and fortitude to go after the people actually responsible for violence in our communities.
