It is quite normal for a person awakened suddenly in the middle of the night to experience a moment of confusion. How they react when that confusion passes may well save their life.
A Clarksville, Tennessee, woman was sleeping in the early morning hours of Monday when her dogs suddenly started barking. At that point, she heard noise at the front door of her townhome and presumed that her husband was trying to get in.
That’s when she got the shock of her life.
A stranger came through Tennessee woman’s front door, not her husband
The intended victim unlocked and opened the door, but it was not her husband causing the commotion. Instead, it was a total stranger, and the man then burst inside and a struggle followed.
The woman, who undoubtedly was a bit foggy when startled at around 1:40 a.m., still had the presence of mind to have a loaded firearm in her hand when she unlatched the door. She opened fire, and the suspect was struck by multiple rounds and quickly went down.
Multiple bullet wounds quickly neutralized the late-night threat
Emergency personnel airlifted the unidentified suspect to a Nashville hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Clarksville Police investigators confirmed that the woman was cooperating with the probe into the shooting.
Media reports did not list injuries to the female homeowner.
Without question, she experienced a terrifying encounter that could have gone very wrong. Instead, even though she thought the sounds from the front of the residence were her husband, she did not lose situational awareness and was ready for what greeted her when she unlocked the door.
That’s the type of preparedness seen every day from law-abiding Americans nationwide. Free exercise of her Second Amendment rights saved her from a possibly lethal attack, and the courage she displayed is a great teaching example.
