While a handful of members of the Republic waste an enormous amount of time and expense vilifying the Second Amendment, Florida just took another giant step on a better path.
The Sunshine State announced last week the rollout of the new Sales Tax Holiday, which kicks off on September 1 and continues through the end of the year. This is not a flash weekend sale just before school starts back.
Instead, it is aligned with Florida’s powerful hunting traditions as well as the gift-giving season. So, what does this welcome program include?
Shooting enthusiasts learned of a welcome change in the sales tax holiday
Florida’s sporting community will enjoy tax-free purchases on pistols, rifles, shotguns, ammunition, magazines, optics, slings, holsters, stocks, triggers, and firearm maintenance kits.
In other words, most of what any shooting enthusiast could ask for.
And there’s a perk in the 2026 version of the sales tax holiday that wasn’t in the 2025 edition. Florida HB 7031-E explicitly includes popular accessories such as suppressors (silencers), and there are no price caps on eligible purchases.

Anyone purchasing a suppressor still must abide by NFA regulations, but the hated stamp fee was killed earlier this year. It is great news that these accessories are now classified as exactly that—accessories.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) issued a congratulatory statement after news broke about the new and improved sales tax holiday. The venerable gun rights organization thanked a who’s who of Florida’s legislative leaders for having the courage to stand up to the anti-gun lobby.
Just as certain states predictably follow California’s or New York’s lead in suppressing gun rights, a trend in the opposite direction would be a welcome change.
More states should join Florida in carving out an extended period during which Second Amendment freedoms are more easily exercised.
