Even in Texas of all places, there is still work to be done.
This was evident early Saturday when Cleveland Cavaliers star James Harden was arrested in Houston on a gun charge. He reportedly had a handgun in plain view in his vehicle.
It was not in a holster, and thus he was taken into custody.
2A supporters shocked at the details of Harden’s arrest
Gun Owners of America (GOA) reacted quickly with a powerful statement, and there may be a positive outcome to this encounter with the law.
“Texas allows constitutional carry, yet James Harden was arrested because his legally owned firearm wasn’t in a holster in his vehicle,” the organization posted on X. “The government has no business micromanaging how a law-abiding citizen secures their own gun.”
The fact that the NBA veteran is a well-respected athlete could be the impetus to change a law that surprised many in the Second Amendment community, who were unaware it was even on the books in the Lone Star State.
There is no logical reason to arrest an individual for not using a holster
Again, Texas is a constitutional carry state, one of 29 that do not require law-abiding citizens to apply to the government to exercise their right to keep and bear arms freely. It is also an open carry state with no permit requirement for anyone legally qualified to possess a weapon.
Harden faces a misdemeanor charge and was released from custody Saturday morning. He is scheduled to be arraigned on June 22.
In a statement, the Cleveland Cavaliers said they were in contact with their star player and were monitoring the case. A case that should quietly disappear.
Not because he is a popular athlete on the world stage, but because he is an upstanding citizen with the right to lawfully possess and carry firearms. Just like every other upstanding American.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
