Senate Bill Would Repeal Prohibition of Federal Gun Registry

A proposal in the U.S. Senate intends to repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which is solely responsible for thwarting anti-gunners’ dreams of a national firearm registry.

Sen. Andy Kim (D-NJ) introduced the so-called Gun Records Restoration and Preservation Act. If approved by Congress and signed by the president, it would open the floodgates to federal control over the right to keep and bear arms.

Specifically, Kim and his cohorts want a nationwide gun registry so Washington knows about everything in your gun safe.

Senator wants the government to control the firearms market completely

“We need to use every tool at our disposal to combat gun violence tearing our communities apart, but right now we are cut off from them,” the Senator alleged. “This legislation would unlock critical data and make sure we can fully examine the flow of guns from the very start and take action before more lives are lost.”

Kim and his ilk would be cute if their ideas weren’t such an affront to constitutional freedoms.

Despite their claims, there’s only one reason for this bill

There is no question about his and his supporters’ motives.

The act would eliminate the current requirement that all background check records be destroyed to protect the gun owner’s privacy. If passed, FOIA requests for data on firearm traces would be legal, another assault on privacy.

Law-abiding gun dealers would be forced to conduct yearly inventory audits so anti-gunners will know what mom-and-pop gun shops have in stock. It would also greenlight the Department of Justice’s merging of federal firearms licensee (FFL) records.

The gun rights community sees the bill for exactly what it is–the first step to confiscation.

Without these records, it would be virtually impossible for federal authorities to seize anywhere near the hundreds of millions of firearms in circulation. Thankfully, with the current Congress and administration, there is zero chance of this happening.

But, after November, there very well may be renewed hope for congressional gun grabbers.
