There should be penalties for states that run roughshod over Second Amendment rights, but litigation can take years, and there’s always the chance that anti-gunners will prevail.

There is, however, an undeniable resistance that sends a powerful message to leaders that our rights are not to be bargained away. Firearm manufacturers continue to bail on their states that oppose gun rights, and Virginia is the latest to receive the notice.

Governor celebrates the pending arrival of Rideout Arsenal

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) announced on Wednesday that Rideout Arsenal, currently operating in Old Dominion, is pulling up roots and relocating to the Peach State.

“Our state’s pro-business approach, skilled workforce, and enduring support for constitutional freedom make us an ideal home for manufacturers like Rideout Arsenal, and we look forward to their success in the No. 1 state for business,” Kemp declared.

Aside from the expected civic pride from a political leader, Kemp is correct. There is no reason for a constitutionally protected business to endure slings and arrows from hostile government leaders who seek to drive it into the ground.

If lawmakers target a constitutionally protected business, it essentially has no choice

Travis and Kelsey Rideout founded Rideout Arsenal and made it clear they did not want to abandon their Virginia home.

“This relocation was not something we originally planned to pursue,” the owners explained. “The reality is that recent anti-gun legislation in Virginia created a significant uncertainty for our company and ultimately forced us to look for a state where we could continue operating, investing, and growing with confidence.”

The Dragon pistol producers are settling in Thomasville, and the town welcomed the business with open arms.

Mayor Scott Chastain announced the move. “Today, we welcome Rideout Arsenal to Thomasville. This includes new highly skilled jobs, new partnerships, and new momentum for our community.”

That’s a far cry from Virginia’s cold shoulder. And it builds on the momentum created by industry giants such as Smith & Wesson, Remington, and Ruger, all of which pulled up stakes from hostile states and relocated all or most of their operations to a much more welcoming environment.
