Texas Woman Shoots Ex When Pepper Spray Failed

Non-lethal defensive weapons are a niche market in the U.S., and these products are part of millions of Americans’ self-defense plans. They include everything from pocket alarms and strobe lights to stun guns and pepper spray.

When these are the only options, they can be better than nothing, and many upstanding citizens believe these tools protect them.

Unfortunately, they don’t always stop attackers, and if these self-defense tools fail, the targeted individual may have no other recourse. That was not the case for a Texas woman early Sunday morning, and she demonstrated the need for more defensive force than her chemical deterrent provided.

When pepper spray failed, Texas woman had a ready backup

Fort Worth police received a 911 call from a woman just after 7 a.m. telling them that she had shot a former boyfriend in her home.

The intended victim told investigators that the suspect entered the residence without permission and attacked her. She first used pepper spray to defend herself, but that did not work.

That’s when she opened fire, striking the suspect three times and ending the frightening confrontation. He went down, and emergency workers transported him to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Intended victim survived and does not appear to face charges for defending herself

Officials did not announce charges against the woman, and there are likely to be none without new information. It was unclear whether she was injured, but she survived and now provides another example of real-world self-defense.

Second Amendment opponents decry the need for lethal force to protect oneself, believing that calling 911 and deploying less intensive measures are all that a person needs.

They are dead wrong.

While these less lethal alternatives have their place, especially where gun rights are severely restricted, they are hardly foolproof. They may leave a law-abiding citizen at the mercy of violent criminals.

In far too many instances, there is simply no substitute for a legal firearm and the practiced skills and courage to wield one. The weekend incident in Texas demonstrated this truth for anyone who doubted it.

There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.

Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
