New Jersey’s shooting community has a significant day coming at the end of the month. That’s when the Third Circuit’s decision in Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs v. Platkin, ending the state’s ban on popular firearms and weapons, takes effect.
That word came from the New Jersey State Police Firearms Dealer Investigative Unit through an email distributed to the state’s federally licensed gun shops.
Authorities indicate that they will comply with federal court ruling
“We are aware of the Third Circuit’s decision in ANJRPC v. Platkin, which is effective July 31, 2026,” the communication reads. “We are working with the Office of the Attorney General to develop practical guidance for New Jersey residents and businesses in light of that decision.”
This is what victory looks like, and there are no indications that authorities will attempt to enact backdoor restrictions to keep the spirit of the unconstitutional ban in effect.
Last week, the en banc Third Circuit reached a historic decision that the Garden State’s prohibition of popular semi-automatic weapons and magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds violated the Second Amendment.

As welcome as the seismic change is for the 2A community, there remains work to be done. The Third Circuit returned legal challenges to other commonly held weapons to the district court for consideration.
And the ANJRPC cautioned that the state may yet seek to stay the decision and get either a rehearing or a review from the U.S. Supreme Court. Of course, it would burnish the apparent victory over New Jersey’s notorious gun control regime.
That being said, the State Police’s communication with gun dealers is a positive sign that, even though officials are certainly angry about the legal defeat, they appear ready to comply with the court.
