A California man awaits an official decision on whether he faces trouble for stepping up with a firearm and stopping an obviously disturbed individual allegedly terrorizing customers and staff in a restaurant. Good news would be almost immediate in Texas or Florida, but the Golden State is a different animal.
Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que is a popular dining establishment in Cerritos. Despite its location, it certainly is not a movie set, though patrons may be excused if they got that impression Sunday afternoon.

That’s when a man walked in bleeding from the neck and holding a knife. Lt. German Ochoa of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department told NBC Los Angeles that the suspect “ran through the kitchen and service area of the restaurant, scaring customers and staff.”
Even in gun control crazy California, there was an armed good guy who ended the threat. A restaurant employee described the harrowing experience to ABC7 Eyewitness News.
“I just saw a guy run in the restaurant with his throat slit, and he had a knife,” the shocked worker recalled. “Once he went to the main dining area with all the guests, I guess there was another guest that was sitting down. He pointed a gun at him, told him to put the knife down; the guy kept walking toward him like Michael Myers. [The diner] shot him.”

Authorities discovered that the unsettling encounter began before the suspect entered the establishment.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the man was driving a stolen truck, which he ditched before apparently cutting his own throat at a nearby Starbucks.
As for the hero, he is reportedly a concealed carry license holder and is cooperating with investigators. No other details have been released, but if the narrative holds, he should not face a legal nightmare for doing the right thing.
Then again, it’s California, so all bets are off.
