On Friday, a broad alliance of influential Second Amendment defenders pooled their power against New York’s notorious gun control regime.
The National Rifle Association (NRA), Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC), the Firing Pin, LLC, and two private citizens filed Firing Pin, LLC v. James.
This challenge confronts the pending state law banning virtually every Glock and Glock-style pistol featuring a cruciform trigger bar. Officials deem these “convertible” and, instead of targeting criminals committing illegal acts with these popular weapons, they go after the firearms industry.
Heller’s clear precedent should invalidate New York’s Glock ban
The NRA explained its position.
“Our lawsuit argues that New York’s Glock ban violates the Second Amendment,” the group posted on its website. “In District of Columbia v. Heller, the U.S. Supreme Court held that ‘common’ firearms cannot be banned and specifically struck down a handgun ban as unconstitutional. New York’s prohibition on many of the most popular handguns in America blatantly defies that precedent.”
Of course, the Empire State has an egregious record of treating SCOTUS rulings on gun rights as mere suggestions.
These bans are about control–not public safety
The FPC noted that the New York statute “prevents peaceable people from acquiring some of the most popular handguns in America because those firearms can be illegally modified using devices that are already banned under both federal and New York law.”
The group accused state “tyrants” of joining forces with California and Maryland’s oppressive gun control regimes in targeting these ubiquitous handguns.
Anti-2A Governor Kathy Hochul (D) signed the bill into law in May, and it takes effect in May 2027.
The lawsuit declared that, if the law is allowed to proceed, “ordinary New Yorkers will be relegated to a shrinking secondary market made up of only those pistols possessed before the law’s effective date.”
