Wildlife and gun ranges have much in common when it comes to surviving in rural America. As developers encroach on more open land, both face extinction or closure.
As reported by The Truth About Guns, a shooting facility opened in an undeveloped area of New Jersey following World War II and has since been utilized by generations of the sporting community.
That will change if a modern developer gets their way.
‘Progress’ should not come at the expense of lawful gun ranges
The Iron Horse Rifle & Pistol Club was established in Gloucester Township far away from just about everyone and welcomes firearms and archery enthusiasts to enjoy its offerings. Still, sprawling development and soaring land prices made it a hot target for legal poaching.
After withstanding a new neighbor’s lawsuit and municipal challenges in recent years, the range is threatened yet again.
This time, according to the complaint cited by TTAG, the opposition comes from Bryn Mawr Garwood, LLC, a new business entity according to New Jersey records. Iron Horse R&R LLC faces complaints from plaintiffs who cite “solid waste disposal and soil stockpiling” and “potential contamination.”
Small business is hard-pressed to withstand powerful legal challenge
To be sure, a rural gun range nearly always lacks the resources necessary to hold off a well-funded adversary looking to expand its holdings and bottom line.
Too many in modern America pull up stakes and move to the countryside only to destroy the very traditions that brought them there. Such facilities are critical for the continued existence of spaces where law-abiding citizens may hone their Second Amendment skills.
Unfortunately for Iron Horse, New Jersey hardly ranks as a locale where the constitutional right to keep and bear arms is hallowed.
Instead, state officials in recent years pulled out all stops to curb firearm ownership and possession. Special interests only see dollar signs, millions of them, and it’s not likely that authorities will do the right thing and protect a long-established lawful business.
