Despite widely reported double-digit decreases in homicides and other violent crimes, the needed relief is hardly spread evenly. Strong pockets of resistance to progress remain, including two notable examples just last weekend.
Downtown Seattle saw three murders, while Chicago, less surprisingly, experienced eight fatalities and dozens of shootings. Some communities still struggle against a broken system they do not control, even as “leaders” deny and deflect.
The only silver lining is that people are apparently waking up, as revealed in Seattle ABC affiliate KOMO’s online survey.
Intelligent people know gun control only affects the law-abiding
Though not a scientific data collection, real people answered questions and the results speak for themselves. A full 90% of respondents point the finger at soft-on-crime judicial activists who operate a revolving-door system that drops hardened criminals right back onto the streets.
Only 6 percent blamed the firearms used in the deadly shootings.
Washington state notably hardened its already overbearing gun control policies in recent years, but still the fatalities persist. If the answer is not more restrictions on Second Amendment rights, could it instead be to crack down on those who repeatedly commit these crimes and then flaunt the judicial system?
Progress against violent crime is not equally shared
After the deadly weekend, Seattle NBC affiliate KING reiterated that homicides are down nearly 30% so far in the city. “But the citywide gains are not the reality in some neighborhoods, where violent crime and property crime have surged,” the outlet noted.
Would residents of these lagging areas benefit from having criminals removed from the streets instead of more gun control? Of course they would, but that takes political courage.
It is much easier to stand before cameras and rail against inanimate objects than it is to have the fortitude to place blame where it belongs and lock up repeat offenders.
The people are catching on.
