As has been noted many times of late, it is not necessary to discharge a firearm in many instances to stop a threat in its tracks and show violent criminals the error of their ways.
Discovering the intended victim, or someone willing to defend them, armed and ready to act, is often enough to deter. That’s why the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently updated its defensive gun uses annual estimate to range from 500,000 to 2.5 million.
Mother just said no to violence under her roof
The latest glaring example of the power of the lawful use of a firearm to right wrongs came from Toledo, Ohio. Law enforcement received an emergency call early Tuesday morning from a residence near the heart of the city of a violent disturbance.
When they arrived, they found two brothers, Dazeon Hersey, 19, and Juawan Hersey, 21, being held by the barrel of a shotgun by a woman who lived there. The older brother lived there with his girlfriend, and it was not immediately apparent what caused violence to erupt.
What is clear is that, when officers forced their way inside, they found the woman holding a firearm on the two suddenly compliant young men.
Hero resident did not need to fire a shot
Dazeon was taken into custody and charged with domestic violence, assault, obstruction, and resisting arrest. Brother Juawan faces charges of domestic violence, assault, and using a weapon while intoxicated.
No charges were announced against the armed mother who had the situation well under control when help arrived–thanks to a ready firearm.
Details change from situation to situation, but the template is clear. A person believes they are in control of a situation which they instigated, only to have another individual prove to them that they are incorrect.
These are the stories that Second Amendment opponents would rather sweep under the rug.
While they are quick to spotlight illegal acts by people who should never be on the streets in the first place, they are loathe to acknowledge that good people can and do defend themselves with firearms every single day. It simply doesn’t fit the narrative.
