Second verse, same as the first. No matter how many times good guys with guns stop bad guys from committing crimes, it happens yet again.

This time the scene unfolded at a residence in Blair, Wisconsin. It was about 1 a.m. on Monday when a suspect allegedly kicked in the front door of a home to gain entry.

Think about that. No stealth and nothing sneaky in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.

Just putting force behind shoe leather to stomp a door in and alert anyone present that there is a violent intruder breaking in. It doesn’t say much for the intelligence of the suspect.

A couple was at home, and the husband managed to retrieve a firearm for self-defense. After all, it’s a pretty good clue when a person kicks in the front door in the middle of the night that they are not there to find out if you are a regular churchgoer.

The husband was able to fire at least one shot, striking the suspect. His wife then called 911 to inform them that a break-in had occurred and there was a shooting victim.

When law enforcement arrived, they found the wounded man in the family’s garage. He was transported by ambulance to Gundersen Tri County Hospital before being moved to another medical facility for treatment.

Blair Police investigators believe the intruder also broke into another home the same night but was not confronted there. No one was home. Perhaps he should have accepted that as good fortune and ended his activities, but he did not and paid the price.

Despite knowing that the American public is generally well armed, criminals continue to break into homes and risk their lives. Nearly everywhere in the nation, the right to self-defense with a firearm is recognized as fundamental, and people do not hesitate to exercise it when threatened.

There is no official word on the legal status of the Blair homeowner, but it would be a shock if he were charged. More than likely, he is being celebrated as a hero.
