California leads the nation in egregious gun control measures that do nothing to combat violent crime but much to suppress the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. And it increasingly has a smaller sibling intent on following in its misguided footsteps.

Colorado is actively mimicking its larger neighbor’s actions to suppress the freedoms of its people. The latest example is HB24-1292, which is yet another frontal attack on so-called “assault weapons.”

And many gun rights advocates worry that the spread of these cut-and-paste laws is going largely unnoticed.

Ava Flanell is a firearms instructor in Colorado Springs, Interviewed by Fox News Digital, she said awareness must increase concerning states rapidly chipping away at constitutional rights.

“This should be making national news as it doesn’t just impact Colorado, but the nation as a whole. Lawmakers are using these outrageous bills as blueprints, changing the state names and implementing them across the country at a state level because they don’t have the votes to do it nationally.”

For example, Centennial State lawmakers are pushing the “assault weapons” ban that would impact many more guns than just the AR-15 and similar weapons. Flanell called the bill “incredibly deceptive.” She said the legislature is going beyond targeting “scary guns” such as ARs and AKs.

Instead, they seek a sweeping prohibition of “80-90% of semi-automatic firearms popular today, including handguns and shotguns.”

She further charged that the measure would ban popular firearm features including the foregrip, adjustable stock, pistol grip and barrel shroud.

Legislators are going after weapon accessories that are merely cosmetic and do nothing to increase the lethal capabilities of the firearm.

Another expert, EMPOWERED Founder and President Antonia Okafor, told the outlet that women will be especially vulnerable if the semi-automatic weapons ban is enacted. “After seven years of training women, it is abundantly clear that women prefer an AR-15 for the defense of their home, their family and themselves.”

Despite this, misguided Colorado leaders are intent on copying California and transforming their state into a gun control haven. This should be opposed by freedom-loving citizens at every turn.
