North Carolina’s Second Amendment supporters are back to kicking rocks while they wait for definitive action from their elected officials. Lawmakers again delayed a vote on finally recognizing constitutional carry rights.
Months of stalling and pushback culminated in the sixth postponement of the vote, now set for December 15. The drive to eliminate the need to obtain government permission to carry a legal weapon outside the home remains strong, but the outcome is far from certain.
2A group urged unity among gun rights supporters to pass SB 50
Gun rights advocates watched in frustration as House 2A advocates stalled the vote, meaning Senate Bill 50, “Freedom to Carry NC,” is still in limbo.
The National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) lamented yet another setback.
“Another disappointing move,” the NAGR posted on X. “Constitutional carry (SB 50) is pulled from the calendar again. The veto override is delayed until December 15. This is the sixth time they’ve kicked the can down the road because of a handful of Republican holdouts in the House. Gun owners have long since run out of patience.”
Supporters are one short of the necessary veto-proof supermajority in the House
Currently, law-abiding North Carolina residents must obtain a government permit to carry a firearm outside the home for self-defense legally. If finally enacted, the Tar Heel State would become the 30th in the Union to enshrine permitless carry.
The state would continue to operate an optional permit system to enable citizens to exercise reciprocity when away from home.
Both chambers passed the bill this year, only for Gov. Josh Stein (D) to claim in June that his constituents would be “less safe” with constitutional carry. The Senate overrode his veto shortly thereafter, but the House leadership has had to work around defections to the anti-Second Amendment camp.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
