Every responsible gun owner knows that alcohol and firearms don’t mix. However, a recent altercation at an Indiana drinking establishment demonstrated yet again how having a legal and ready firearm may be the best defense against criminal wrongdoing—even in a bar.
The violent incident exploded Tuesday night at the Red Dog Saloon in Muncie. Police received multiple calls just before 9 p.m. from people reporting that a man was attacking people in the bar.
What they found was the aftermath of a chaotic confrontation and a suspect shot in an apparent case of self-defense.
Witnesses reported the suspect attacked and spat on multiple victims
Investigators believe 53-year-old Larry Scott became enraged and punched a female employee over the bar. Witnesses reported the suspect then spat on her and other patrons, and then the explosion quickly deteriorated.
Scott allegedly grabbed barstools and chairs and began swinging them violently at innocent victims. He is believed to have struck at least four people, and they suffered injuries ranging from broken ribs to a partially collapsed lung.
That’s when a Good Samaritan emerged from chaos. One of the individuals Scott allegedly assaulted produced a firearm and shot him at least once.
A bad night could have been much worse without a ready firearm
Responding officers found Scott walking away from the bar suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment, and then prosecutors brought the hammer down.
The suspect faces two counts of aggravated battery, four counts of battery with moderate injury, use of a deadly weapon, and three counts of battery involving bodily waste from the spitting accusations.
The person who stepped up has not been charged, and it is unclear whether they had a concealed carry permit.
What is clear is that an armed citizen once again thwarted a violent attack on innocent victims. This is another shining example of the Second Amendment empowering good people to protect themselves from criminals.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
