As the roster of states stacking obstacles between gun owners and their Second Amendment rights expands (e.g., Virginia and Colorado), Florida leaves no doubt about where it stands on civil liberties.
The Sunshine State’s Hunting, Fishing, and Camping Sales Tax Holiday rolled out on Sept. 1, and the sporting community gets a sizeable break on purchases of a wide range of goods, including firearms, ammunition, suppressors, and an expansive list of outdoor essentials.
The state sales tax on these purchases is now waived for the rest of 2026, a shot in the arm for shooting enthusiasts.
Enthusiasts are incentivized to stock up through the New Year
While there are complaints about price restrictions on outdoor goods, there are no such limits on firearm-related purchases.
Everything from guns and ammo to magazines, holsters, pistol grips, barrels, sights, and optics is free from the state’s sales tax, which can reach as high as 8% in certain counties.
In its original form, the holiday would cover only six weeks, but the Legislature quickly expanded it to the final four months of the year. And far from being just a government-administered price break, this action is a powerful statement.
Florida leads the way in providing tax breaks to the sporting community
Florida brought back last year’s popular tax holiday spanning hunting season as a rebuttal to oppressive gun control enacted for millions of shooting enthusiasts. California, New York, and Illinois are always on the wrong side of the argument, but there are up-and-comers following their lead with official disdain for the right to keep and bear arms.
The Sunshine State, home to over 23 million residents and a rich sporting tradition, rolled the red carpet back out this month for the public to get a financial break when buying that first deer rifle or stocking up on rounds and accessories.
From the sparkling shores of Miami Beach to the military-rich panhandle, there is increased incentive to fully exercise Second Amendment freedoms.
Is it any wonder that Florida and Texas draw so many newcomers while California and New York are bleeding residents?
