To be clear, the Second Amendment was never primarily about hunting or shooting cans off of a fencepost. The Founding Fathers lived under a tyrannical regime firsthand, and they repeatedly expressed their commitment to law-abiding citizens and their need for arms to defend against despots.
Now, a prominent U.S. Senator, Lindsey Graham (R-SC), called for arming the Iranian population with the tools necessary to change the nation’s leadership.
Tehran is well known for its utter disregard for human rights, and Graham proposed a “Second Amendment solution” to the nation’s turmoil.
Graham believes Iran’s populace deserves the same chance as early American colonists
Speaking on Fox News’ “Hannity” program Monday evening, the senator made no bones about the role firearms could play in unshackling the Persian nation.
“I love the idea of a Second Amendment solution for the Iranian people,” Graham declared. “If I were President Trump and I were Israel, I would load the Iranian people up with weapons so they could go to the streets armed and turn the tide of the battle inside Iran.”
Senator rejects idea of putting American boots on the ground
Graham struck back against the idea that U.S. troops on Iranian soil is the answer. “We don’t need American boots on the ground. We’ve got millions of boots on the ground in Iran. They just don’t have any weapons. Give them the weapons so they can rise up like we did to destroy this regime.”
The Middle East is buckling under hostilities between Iran and the U.S. and its Israeli ally. These are not the only combatants, as Tehran launched missile strikes at several of its neighbors and closed the Strait of Hormuz.
There were reportedly attempts by the U.S. to deliver firearms to Iranian protesters during the national uprising in December and January.
Unfortunately, the White House believes that Kurdish fighters stole the weaponry, and it never reached the Iranian people who needed it.
