Several House members held a discussion Monday on what participants called the “nationwide gun emergency.” The gathering of Democrats was led by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), who stated the purpose of the Washington gathering.

“We’re going to examine the nationwide gun emergency that’s taking place, the endless rounds of gun violence and massacres that are plaguing our society.”

Interestingly, some in attendance expressed belief that the weapons industry is quaking in fear over changes in the gun control demographic.

Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) declared, “The gun lobby is more afraid, now more than ever, as they see a multiracial, multigenerational army of Americans who are not willing to relent from the demand for common sense gun reform.

Mr. Frost conveniently forgot the fact that African Americans and more recently Jewish Americans are some of the fastest growing groups of new gun owners. No matter the demographic, no one wants to be a helpless victim of violent criminals.

Further proof? The National Shooting Sports Foundation, the industry trade group, reported that African American gun purchases rose 58% in 2020, the year of widespread rioting amid the pandemic.

Again, people are united in their desire to not be an easy target.

Philip Smith of Atlanta founded the National African American Gun Association eight years ago. He called the massive surge in Black gun ownership an “awakening” and called it a “good direction.”

The group boasts 48,000 members nationwide and is adding over 1,000 each month since 2020.

Need more proof? CNN confirmed in a recent report that gun sales are also surging among women. Random violence is just that — random. Anyone can be a target, and that’s what the recent House gathering does not understand.

The nation indeed has an emergency, but it’s not a “gun emergency.” It’s crime.
