When the prominent governor of the most populous U.S. state, who is widely believed to be eyeing a strong presidential bid in 2028, acts on gun control, those who prize their Second Amendment rights must take note.
That is California’s Gavin Newsom (D), the same politician who just three years ago proposed a 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would export the Golden State’s oppressive gun control regime to the rest of the nation.
Newsom, as expected, on Saturday signed 10 anti-gun rights bills into law. The specifics of these actions, which may affect us all, deserve closer inspection.
Advanced engineering technology now hampered by California law
One, AB 2047, intends to block private citizens from using personal 3D printers to create their own firearms or parts. Anti-Second Amendment outfit Everytown for Gun Safety quickly applauded Newsom’s signature on the “groundbreaking legislation.”
These state-of-the-art printers must include technology that prevents users from creating firearms or parts.
Then there’s Senate Bill 948, which the National Rifle Association (NRA) reported: “dramatically expands California’s Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) requirements by mandating a minimum four-hour training course beginning in 2029, including live-fire exercises and state-prescribed classroom instruction.”
Potential POTUS candidate has undeniable track record on gun rights
Another adds a new misdemeanor: possessing, selling, or transferring a gun with a serial number or identifying marks destroyed, to the list of crimes that carry a 10-year firearm prohibition.
Yet another expands access to the state’s massive firearm-owner data collection. This is California, the state that just four years ago exposed an enormous amount of gun owners’ personal information in a widely publicized data breach.
And it’s also Gavin Newsom, the same man who wants to expand his increasingly cumbersome and overbearing gun control regime to 49 other states. Of course, there will be a perfunctory softening of these stances if his candidacy takes off, and the governor may even pose with a firearm.
