There are few ways to rile up law-abiding citizens more strongly than threatening fundamental freedoms guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.
June’s gun sales, in the midst of looming deadlines to purchase AR-15s and similar sporting rifles in two states, raced past last year’s same month total and proved yet again how upstanding Americans react to such blatant infringements.
Pending ‘assault weapon’ bans meant crowds in gun shops
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the weapons industry trade association, culls raw NICS data monthly to isolate gun sales and get a clearer picture of the industry’s health.
Suffice it to say that June’s adjusted figure of 1,123,006 checks proved the right to keep and bear arms is not on life support. Last month’s firearm sales posted a strong 11.7 percent increase over the same month in 2025.
Two states led the charge to secure the most popular weapons before they were banned.
Anti-gun lawmakers have no one to blame but themselves for the surge
The NSSF reported that “Virginia saw a 241 percent increase over the same month last year,” and Rhode Island posted a remarkable 201 percent surge. Old Dominion’s blanket restriction is now on hold thanks to powerful legal challenges, but Rhode Island’s similar law took effect July 1.
Along with the gun sales figures are two more bits of encouraging news.
Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s (D) “assault weapons” ban, scheduled to take effect July 1, was blocked after multiple state judges issued injunctions against the prohibition. These actions resulted directly from Second Amendment organizations challenging the law.
Then, on the national stage, gun rights supporters are cautiously optimistic after the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear arguments related to “assault weapon” bans elsewhere.
Second Amendment supporters are not guaranteed a favorable ruling, but a high court determination on these controversial laws is long overdue.
