Violent Robbery in Port Richmond Leaves Woman Injured
A Philadelphia couple is fortunate to have survived a violent robbery Tuesday night, but it remains to be determined whether there will be legal ramifications for their armed response.
Investigators believe the 27-year-old man and 26-year-old woman parked their vehicle in the Port Richmond section of the city and were walking when they were accosted.
Two suspects allegedly approached the couple brandishing firearms.
A skirmish ensued, and one of the attackers allegedly fired at least one shot that struck the woman in the leg. Both victims were then pistol-whipped before the suspects attempted to flee with roughly $1,000 in cash from their victims.

At that point, the boyfriend drew his weapon and began firing at the suspects. Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters that he shot at least 16 rounds at the fleeing vehicle, described as possibly a gray Buick.
Officials reported that the man was licensed to carry his weapon, and they do not know if either of the suspects was struck. The search for the two men continues as investigators pore through evidence from the scene.
Meanwhile, the female victim underwent surgery on her wounded leg. The man suffered what were described as non-serious injuries in the attack.
A Port Richmond resident told local media that the City of Brotherly Love is overrun with criminals who care nothing for the law. Lisa Grillo-Bruse said she is considering moving away from Philadelphia “because there’s too much of that going on.”
The obvious question is whether the man faces legal consequences for firing at the fleeing vehicle. While it is certain that he was highly agitated after being pistol-whipped and robbed, the possibility remains that prosecutors will determine that the immediate threat was over when he shot at the suspects.
