Last June, Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee (D) signed the “State Assault Weapons Ban Act” into law. Despite the obvious constitutional objections by Second Amendment supporters, lawmakers shamelessly promised that no one is “coming for anyone’s guns.”
All law-abiding citizens who already owned the now-banned modern sporting rifles were safe in the assurance that they would not hear a knock on the door.
What a difference less than a year makes.
Last year’s promise to law-abiding RI citizens was just words
Now state lawmakers want to ban the possession of these ubiquitous weapons entirely. No grandfathering in, no consideration for the right to keep and bear arms.
Rep. Teresa Tanzi (D) introduced this legislation, and she did not try to hide her agenda when addressing the House Judiciary Committee last week. “We have defined which is dangerous, and we have the right to regulate it into nonexistence.”
At least give her credit for saying the quiet part out loud.
Proposal may lead to confiscation of modern sporting rifles
How far have Rhode Island’s anti-gunners gone over the edge? S.2710 would establish strict penalties for those who dare to keep property they already lawfully purchased and possessed, with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Upstanding citizens submitted to mandated background checks and filled out all the necessary paperwork to buy their arms. These are not violent criminals who face disarmament, because even anti-gunners know those who prey on the innocent will not dutifully hand over their guns.
Confiscation is not a conspiracy theory circulating in the seedier regions of the internet and social media.
Instead, it is the endgame for those who believe the Second Amendment had an expiration date. If the bill becomes law, you can bet the farm that, barring a successful legal challenge, Rhode Island’s gun-owning population will hear knocks on their doors.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
