Rights contained in the Second Amendment protect American lives every day in many instances of which the general public will never know of. But it is now more frequent that we hear of armed good guys forced into situations not of their own choosing defending life and property with firearms.

Once such an alarming example unfolded in Tennessee in the early morning hours of Tuesday.

A Harrison homeowner was pushed into defending his residence against armed intruders on two consecutive nights. The second incident turned deadly, but thankfully not for the good guy.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department reported that one suspect is dead, and a manhunt is on for two others.

Three armed individuals forced their way into the home at about 1 a.m. They were immediately confronted by the homeowner, and shots were fired in both directions.

One of the suspects was fatally wounded, and first responders pronounced him dead there. The other two alleged attackers escaped through a window and are currently being sought.

K-9 officers and drones were used to track the suspects but to no avail.

Neighbors are upset over the violent encounter in their backyard and by the fact that it was the second straight night that particular home was targeted. The area is described as normally safe, and HCSO asked for the public’s assistance in putting an end to the sudden rash of home invasions.

Law enforcement requested access to security cameras in the surrounding community as well as any witnesses. Identities of those involved are not being released during the ongoing investigation.

One Tennessee homeowner is grateful that they were armed and prepared when the need arose. Criminal acts appear to be increasingly random, meaning there is no way to predict specifically when a person must be ready for a confrontation.

The intelligent choice is to always be diligent and practice situational awareness. And, thanks to the Second Amendment, a legal firearm is a major part of that preparation.
