Anti-gun forces across the nation are on the warpath to limit the capacity of firearm magazines, and they repeatedly claim that no law-abiding citizen needs such firepower. They normally set a completely arbitrary limit of ten maximum rounds.

But a horrific incident early Friday morning in West Philadelphia proved that notion completely wrong.

It was around 2 a.m. when a woman arrived home and discovered that she was not alone. Two people were already in her residence, a frightening scenario for anyone and in particular a lone female.

Investigators determined that the woman engaged in a struggle with one of the suspects and was able to produce a firearm to defend herself. She fired a total of 13 rounds in self-defense, and one of them fatally wounded one of the home invaders.

His body was found in her bedroom.

Shortly after, a man arrived at a local hospital seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. Police described the individual as a “person of interest,” but it has not been officially determined whether he was the second suspect in the violent encounter.

Officials believe there is not a link between the alleged perpetrators and the intended victim. The woman reportedly is fully cooperating with the probe into the deadly incident.

And she fired 13 rounds to save herself. To hear anti-Second Amendment advocates tell it, there is not a need for a magazine that holds more than 10.

Clearly this is a fallacy, and it should not be the role of politicians to draw random limits on how many shots a person may need to defend themselves and their loved ones.

A proposal in the U.S. Congress dubbed the GOSAFE Act late last year attempted to do exactly that.

It drew a sharp rebuke from the NRA’s Randy Kozuch, who declared the bill to be unconstitutional because it “blatantly violates the U.S. Constitution and U.S. Supreme Court by banning the very types of firearms and magazines most often utilized by Americans for defending themselves and their families.”

In his statement to Fox News Digital, Kozuch noted the measure unjustly places the burden on law-abiding citizens and avoids addressing dangerous criminals.
