It was the middle of a likely hot afternoon on Sunday when a Texas family of eight who stopped into a Garland convenience store encountered what would make every good father’s blood run cold.
While what transpired could have gone in a dramatically different direction, the presence of a loaded firearm and the courage to implement lethal force saved the day for eight innocent civilians.
Sunday afternoon family outing became life-and-death struggle
According to local media reports, an unidentified man with some unknown crisis drove his green vehicle into two others before targeting parked cars for an apparent carjacking attempt. It was 3:30 p.m. when he went after his final goal.
Locked doors stopped him multiple times before the suspect allegedly ran into the convenience store and targeted the family of eight. What transpired immediately is unclear, but the suspect and the victims ended up near the white Impala.
The hero father struggled with the suspect as the likely disturbed individual tried to “drive off with the family’s car with family members still inside.” That was a fatal mistake.
Officials quickly reached the correct conclusion
The parent fired at least one shot against his armed alleged attacker, and that was all it took to ensure his family could be together in one piece again. This being Texas and not some wayward locale with prosecutors demanding a damning investigation, the law enforcement response was quick.
According to Garland Police Lt. Pedro Barineau, “It seemed to be self-defense. We are looking at this as a self-defense case. We’re also looking into why the suspect did what he did.”
“Why” is not a question the man who protects what’s most valuable to him had time to consider. That’s a luxury reserved for later.
The “what” being an armed lunatic who was allegedly trying to carjack him and his family was reason enough for one Texas man to step up and become a hero.
