While the American political scene features many prominent players who oppose gun rights to one degree or another, most do not extend their opposition to supporting changes to the Constitution to stamp out this fundamental freedom.
Outliers exist on both sides of the gun control debate, but what happens when rabid anti-gunners are no longer the radical fringe?
Candidates call for unprecedented bans on firearms
Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) not only control New York City’s sprawling government, but they also established political footholds in multiple states in recent election cycles. Why does this matter?
The DSA platform openly calls for abolishing the Second Amendment and replacing it with a 28th Amendment. The right to armed self-defense is, in the party’s own words, “a threat to us all.”
Instead, Americans would only be permitted by the government to own manually loaded firearms. The political upstarts clarified in a document that this standard “means one bullet loaded in the gun, by hand, at a time. We think the compromise should satisfy amateur and hobbyist gun-owning constituencies.”
No, it doesn’t.
Acts of armed self-defense would rarely happen except in stories
The same movement that seeks a complete overhaul of the federal government into something the Founders would not recognize has zero respect for gun rights.
In its own words, “the only way to guarantee that we will dramatically reduce acts of violence involving guns is to remove guns from society.”
Make no mistake, the government formed from the ashes of 250 years of U.S. History would still be heavily armed. It would then use its vast arsenal to ensure that Americans would no longer be able to defend themselves from both the DSA itself and violent criminals who will never abide by such laws.
No more would good citizens be capable of accomplishing the incredible feat the colonists pulled off in the late 1700s. And countless acts of self-defense would be relegated to history books.
Instead, the people would be at the mercy of a tyrannical regime.
Is this caution alarmist? After all, in 2026, the DSA is nowhere near having enough power to pull off such a stunt.
However, the group had zero credibility until very recently, and this year saw a string of election victories by their candidates who did NOTHING to hide their animosity toward your right to keep and bear arms.
