The White House revealed a new gun control push on Thursday focused on firearm storage. President Joe Biden (D) issued an executive order requiring action to shore up safe gun storage across the nation.

The press release claimed the move was intended to “promote safe storage of firearms that implement President Biden’s Executive Order on promoting safe gun storage in order to reduce gun violence and make our communities safer.”

According to the Oval Office missive, proper storage of weapons may decrease “school shootings, youth suicides, unintentional shootings and theft of firearms.”

As part of the push, the Department of Justice will produce and distribute an official guide for firearm storage. It reportedly will include a summary of various storage products that may be utilized.

Part of the program is focused on schools. The Department of Education will contact principals and encourage them to speak with parents and the broader community about gun storage.

A template will also be distributed to leaders in education on effective ways to address safe weapon storage.

First Lady Jill Biden and Education Secretary Miguel Cardona held a town hall with a gathering of principals at the White House on Thursday. Materials were distributed and the executive order was discussed.

While every serious Second Amendment advocate knows the importance of gun safety, it must be recognized that this latest push is part of the sweeping gun control effort originating from this White House. The controversial Office of Gun Violence Prevention was established last fall, and in December a list of recommendations for gun safety was produced.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has also turned decidedly aggressive in curtailing gun rights enjoyed by law-abiding citizens. The agency regularly goes after FFL owners with the flimsiest of excuses to suppress the gun industry.

That means even measures that on the surface are sensible will be viewed with deep suspicion.
