Whether it’s a burglary, home invasion or some other criminal enterprise that involves forcing their way into a person’s home, these acts are increasingly risky business. Many Americans feel as though they are under siege by lawlessness, and a threatened person is a dangerous person.

Time and again, shining examples are reported of courageous would-be victims fighting back through exercising their Second Amendment rights. These stories are increasingly difficult for the mainstream media to ignore, even as they attempt to bury them under the drumbeat of anti-gun rhetoric.

Yet another case emerged Monday morning in Coffee County, Tennessee.

This time the suspect who allegedly made a notably poor decision is 24-year-old Carlos Daniel Antonio Rivera. He apparently believed he would face no resistance when he intruded on the peace and sanctity of a law-abiding citizen’s home, but that was a serious miscalculation.

The homeowner was alert and prepared, and the night took a markedly different turn than anticipated for both suspect and intended victim.

When Coffee County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived, Rivera had been shot and fled on foot. Not knowing where or how far he made it, law enforcement warned area residents to exercise caution and notify authorities if they saw anything suspicious.

It was hours later before Rivera was taken into custody by deputies, and he was suffering a gunshot wound to the chest. He was immediately transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and is reportedly in stable condition.

He is fortunate to have survived a violent confrontation authorities believe he initiated.

Officials initially believed there were multiple suspects but have since clarified that only one person carried out the home invasion

There was no immediate word on specific charges the suspect faces when he is released, but by all accounts, the homeowner clearly acted in self-defense.
