There are far too many instances in which ex-spouses and romantic partners somehow fail to grasp that the relationship is simply over and that they need to ride off into the sunset.
Jilted lovers occasionally react violently, and many times they leave their former partner with little choice but to defend themselves. With lethal force, if necessary.
Woman successfully turned the tables on her violent ex
It was about 9:15 a.m. Friday when police in Manor, Texas, responded to a call of a break-in and a woman possibly being held at gunpoint. Officers responded quickly and reached the residence just in time to clean up the mess.
Police reported the alleged intruder, identified only as an ex-boyfriend of the woman, forced his way into the home and pointed his weapon at her. Details of what happened next are sketchy, but the course of events likely saved the woman’s life.
Somehow, she was able to commandeer the weapon and fire at least one shot at her ex. He was struck in the upper torso, and first responders rushed him to an area hospital in critical condition.
Victims cannot count on being able to strip a weapon away from an attacker
Manor Police Department (MPD) investigators noted the woman stayed on the scene and cooperated with them. They soon announced that the threat was over.
It took a lot of courage for the intended victim to get control of the weapon and rescue herself from a life-threatening confrontation. A better course of action would be to have a legal and loaded weapon available at home for the unexpected, as taking the gun away from your attacker is a desperate move—not preparation.
Either way, the homeowner is fortunate today that she was able to handle the dire emergency and lived to tell about it. There is no word on possible charges, though that appears highly unlikely if the case’s circumstances hold up.
