The apparent schizophrenia of the Trump administration on Second Amendment rights shows no sign of abating.
While the firearms community welcomed the formation of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Second Amendment Section, the White House continues sending decidedly mixed signals.
The Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) reported this week that the administration will continue following the controversial “frame and receiver” definition established during former President Joe Biden’s term.
Anti-gunners want to quash centuries of home craftsmanship
When asked, the White House told the FPC that at this time, the decision is “to maintain the current definition of firearm ‘frame’ and ‘receiver’ contained in that final [Biden Administration] rule.”
The DOJ final rule redefined common terms in the sporting community for standard firearm components. Proponents claim to fight the scourge of so-called “ghost guns,” when the regulation in effect bans the centuries-old practice of crafting firearms at home.
2A supporters know that actions speak far louder than mere words
The fight against the previous White House occupant’s overreach looked promising in 2023 when the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously ruled that the DOJ had indeed exceeded its authority with its final rule.
However, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the contentious regulation last year. This is the same high court that most expected to dig in and defend the Second Amendment, even though its recent track record on gun rights is spotty at best.
The lesson here is obvious for Second Amendment supporters. This is no time to relax their efforts simply because a new administration trumpets itself as a gun rights stalwart.
To be clear, there have been a handful of significant victories for the right to keep and bear arms in the past year, but not nearly enough.
Saying one thing and doing another is not good governance. It is critically important that the shooting community holds leaders responsible for their actions, not just listen to empty rhetoric.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
